Joining hands for global green goals

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh official attended the Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit, held in the form of a videoconference on May 31, at the invitation of President of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Moon Jae-in.

Joining hands for global green goals

This important political event continues to affirm that Vietnam is actively participating in and contributing to the joint efforts to realise the global green growth goals by 2030.

Formed in 2017, P4G is considered the world's leading forum for promoting public-private partnership cooperation, playing the role of connecting governments, businesses and socio-political organisations to discuss and offer breakthrough solutions on green growth, thus contributing to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to 2030 of the United Nations. So far, P4G has 12 member countries, including: Chile, Colombia, Bangladesh, Denmark, Ethiopia, the Netherlands, the ROK and Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, South Africa and Vietnam, and the engagement of more than 90 countries, international organisations as well as businesses across the globe.

Vietnam is one of the seven founding members and official partners of P4G. In July 2018, Vietnam announced the formation of its National P4G Forum, co-chaired by the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development, with the participation of many ministries, sectors and agencies, as well as business groups.

In October 2018, Vietnam attended the first P4G Summit in Denmark, during which the Vietnamese Prime Minister underlined that policy-makers and the business community should share information and give policy recommendations and financial mechanisms to promote potential projects on green growth.

Along with the participation in P4G, over the years, Vietnam has actively contributed to joint efforts of the international community in responding to climate change and accelerating green recovery. Vietnam has engaged in multilateral mechanisms on climate, while integrating climate change issues into its official documents.

The second P4G Summit was hosted by the ROK. Over the years, the relationship between Vietnam and the ROK has continuously developed in many fields, especially since the two countries established a strategic cooperative partnership in October 2019. The activities of contact, exchange and bilateral collaboration mechanisms are maintained. The ROK is one of the leading important partners of Vietnam, ranking first in investment and second in ODA and trade. Two countries enhanced cooperation in the fields of labour, tourism, culture, education, and people-to-people exchange.

The P4G Summit 2021 is considered an important event as climate change response and green recovery has become a top priority of many countries. Promoting the forum's role in promoting the resolution of serious global challenges, promoting cooperation between developed countries and developing countries in order to act together for the global climate, through strengthening public-private partnership in promoting green growth is considered the top priority of this conference.

The P4G Summit features the participation of the leaders of member countries, key partners, and leaders and high-level representatives of about 40 countries and 20 international organisations.

With the theme "Inclusive Green Recovery towards Carbon Neutrality", at the High-Level Dialogue, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and other leaders discussed priority issues, including green recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic; international efforts to achieve the goal of going carbon neutral by 2050; and strengthening climate action and facilitating public-private partnership.

Vietnam’s participation in the P4G Summit continues to affirm the country’s responsible contributions to sustainable development, green growth and response to climate change. The orientations of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Vietnam's active contributions at the second P4G Summit will contribute to further promoting the strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and the ROK; and strengthen cooperation with P4G partners on priority issues, such as climate change response, sustainable development, investment, trade, technology, environment, and renewable energy. This is also an opportunity to promote outstanding socio-economic achievements and development policies of Vietnam, attracting the attention and investment of the ROK and international businesses.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's attendance and keynote speech at the P4G Summit 2021 affirm that Vietnam is proactively and actively integrating into the international community; and participates and contributes responsibly and effectively to the common work of the world, jointly committing and acting for sustainable development and promoting global green growth.
