The visit, to take place on June 28-29, is Thongloun Sisoulith’s first foreign trip since being elected as General Secretary of the LPRP and President of Laos.

The editorial noted that the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos continues to be deepened despite the recent flare-up of Covid-19.

The political relationship plays the main role and determines the overall direction for cooperation between the two countries while defence-security cooperation continues to be one of the important pillars of the bilateral ties, stated Pasaxon.

The Lao leaders and people highly value the support of Vietnam in their efforts to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and cope with the consequences of natural disasters, despite Vietnam also being in difficulty.

According to the Pasaxon editorial, Vietnam is currently the third largest foreign investor in Laos with US$4.2 billion pledged to more than 400 projects.

Vietnam and Laos have also enjoyed strong cooperation in other areas such as education, healthcare, infrastructure and human resource development as well as at regional and international fora.

Such cooperation has benefited the people of both countries and further deepened the special ties between Vietnam and Laos, affirmed the editorial.

The Lao newspaper expressed its belief that Thongloun Sisoulith’s visit will be a success, helping further nurture the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
