Cambodia supports Vietnam in the fight against COVID-19

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen and leaders of a number of associations and unions said on July 17 that Cambodia will donate medical supplies and cash to support the Government and people of Vietnam in their COVID-19 prevention and control.

According to PM Hun Sen's statement as published by the press, the Cambodian Government has decided to donate US$200,000, 1.1 million medical masks and 100 oxygen generators to the Government of Vietnam to support the prevention and control of the epidemic, in the context that Vietnam is currently detecting many new infections.

The leader of the Royal Government of Cambodia emphasised Cambodia’s support to Vietnam is a manifestation of its cooperative spirit as a neighbouring country, in a joint effort to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic.

On the same day, leaders of the Cambodian Red Cross Society and the Cambodia - Vietnam Friendship Association also issued a statement that through the Vietnamese Embassy, ​​the Cambodian Red Cross Society will donate US$100,000 to the Vietnam Red Cross Society while the Cambodia - Vietnam Friendship Association will send US$50,000 to the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association to share with the Vietnamese people in their efforts to fight the epidemic.

Over recent times, Vietnam and Cambodia have closely cooperated in preventing the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic, especially in border provinces.

Governments, agencies, mass organisations and localities in the two sides have regularly visited and donated medical supplies to support each other, and promptly assist the people of each country in fighting the epidemic.
