Thai diplomat honoured with Vietnam’s friendship insignia

Thai Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Apirat Sugondhabhirom has been awarded the “For Peace and Friendship between Nations” insignia by the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organisation (HUFO).

The awards ceremony took place on September 15 on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

The honour is in recognition of the Thai diplomat’s valuable and effective contributions to safeguarding and promoting the friendly and cooperative relationship between the people of Thailand and Vietnam.

During his term, Apirat Sugondhabhirom has played an active role in fostering bilateral ties, including cooperative activities with HUFO and the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam-Thailand Friendship Association.

Over the years the Thai Consulate General has supported Ho Chi Minh City with heart and eye surgery programmes, granted scholarships and brought Thai students to join volunteer activities in Ho Chi Minh City, among others.

The Consulate General has also held many cultural activities to strengthen the understanding between the two countries’ peoples.

For his part, Apirat Sugondhabhirom stated the feels honoured and proud to receive the insignia and vowed to continue doing his best to strengthen the Vietnam-Thailand relationship.

On the occasion, the Thai diplomat announced 30 scholarships for Vietnamese students with high academic achievements in Ho Chi Minh City, which will be presented to the recipients at a ceremony when COVID-19 is brought under control.
