Minister of Public Security receives UK’s Permanent Secretary of the Home Office

Politburo member and Minister of Public Security General To Lam hosted a reception for visiting Permanent Secretary of the UK Home Office Matthew Rycroft in Hanoi on August 16.

Minister Lam spoke highly of the Permanent Secretary at the UK’s Home Office’s visit to Vietnam, saying it would make an important contribution to promoting the fine relationship between the Ministry of Public Security and the UK’s Home Office as well as the strategic partnership between Vietnam and the UK in general.

He pointed out that, in recent time, regarding cooperation in migration, repatriation, prevention and combat of human trafficking and illegal migration, the two sides successfully organised the Vietnam-UK Migration Dialogue for the first time in Hanoi on August 15, 2022.

This dialogue mechanism has contributed to enhancing understanding, solving problems, strengthening cooperation in the field of migration, and preventing and combatting human trafficking and illegal migration, while at the same time promoting the two countries' relations.

He suggested the two sides continue to promote a draft and negotiate towards signing a bilateral international treaty on extradition to strengthen the legal basis for cooperation in the field of extradition between the two countries.
