Yukio Hatoyama, who is also the former President of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance and current President of the East Asia Research Institute, is on a visit to Vietnam to attend a conference on bilateral science and technology co-operation.

Rua said that in order to become an industrialised nation by 2020, Vietnam wants to promote further co-operation with Japan, especially in perfecting its market mechanism, training human resources, and developing infrastructure, science and technology.

He added that Hatoyama’s speech at the conference will give Vietnam helpful hints about applying science and technology for national development.

The former Japanese PM said he was delighted with the achievements Vietnam has recorded in recent years and affirmed that he will do his best to strengthen ties between Vietnam and Japan.

Both To Huy Rua and Yukio Hatoyama agreed that the activities marking the 40th anniversary of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic relations will help the two peoples gain a better understanding of each other and lay the foundations to further cement the ties between Japan and Vietnam.
