President thanks China for its assistance to Vietnam

President Truong Tan Sang affirmed that Vietnam always appreciates the great support that the Chinese Communist Party, State and people have offered to Vietnam during its past struggles for independence and in its continuing process of national construction and development.

As part of his ongoing State-level visit, President Sang met with over 100 Chinese officials, former military experts and diplomats who previously worked in Vietnam, as well as scholars and students, in Beijing on June 20 and stressed Vietnam’s consistent policy of treasuring its friendship and comprehensive co-operation with China. He said this relationship is considered a top priority and basic, long-term guideline for Vietnam’s external policy.

He added that disputes are unavoidable between two neighbouring countries, especially disputes at sea, but with bilateral efforts, good will and experience gained from settling land border issues and the demarcation of the Gulf of Tonkin, the two sides will be able to settle sea-related issues and usher in a brighter future for their bilateral ties.

The President also said it is the responsibility of both nations to educate their young generations about the traditional Vietnam – China friendship.

Mr. Sang thanked the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the Chinese People’s Association For Friendship with Foreign Countries and the China-Vietnam Friendship Association for holding the meeting.

The participants, many of whom were former ambassadors, military experts, artists, lecturers and medical workers in Vietnam or had studied there, vowed to continue fostering the bilateral friendship between Vietnam and China .

They said they believe that under the leadership of the two Parties, the socialism-building process on both side will continue to grow./.
