Deputy PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc receives Lao counterpart

Nhan Dan Online - Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc told Lao counterpart Somsavad Lengsavath in Hanoi on June 21 that a better road and a highway system linking Vietnam and Laos could boost jobs and growth for both countries.

At their meeting, Deputy PM Phuc expressed his pleasure at the fine development of the Vietnam-Laos relations and stated that the relationship is an invaluable asset of the two Parties, two States and two peoples. He congratulated Laos on its great achievements in the national construction cause in the past years.

The Deputy PM also spoke highly of the close collaboration between the Ministries of Planning and Investment of the two countries, and their Sub-Committees for Co-operation in supervising the progress of joint projects in Laos. Three of those projects have been completed since the beginning of this year.

The Lao Deputy PM, who is also head of the Laos–Vietnam Co-operation Sub-committee, expressed his thank to the Party, State and people of Vietnam for their whole-hearted support for socio-economic development in Laos. He suggested the two countries work closely together to effectively carry out signed agreements, especially paying due attention to progress and quality of bilateral co-operation projects, making contributions to developments and advancements in each country.

The two sides also agreed to boost border cooperation and focus on stepping up socio-economic development in boundary localities and ensure the national defence and security along the shared border in order to promote peace and friendship and develop traditional solidarity, special relations and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
