Nhan Dan editor-in-chief Thuan Huu made the statement during a meeting with Indian ambassador to Vietnam Shrimati Preeti Saran in Hanoi on February 27.

Huu said that a delegation from Nhan Dan and the Vietnam Journalists Association (VJA) will visit India at the end of May or the beginning of June to seek co-operation opportunities with Indian media agencies and prepare for the office’s establishment.

Strongly supporting the establishment, Saran stressed the importance of media co-operation in helping both countries, particularly younger generations — who will inherit and develop the traditional friendship between the two countries — understand each other.

She said that the embassy will help arrange the delegation’s visit to India to boost media co-operation between the two countries.

The diplomat also expressed her hope to promote Indian culture and tourism in Vietnam through organising an Indian film festival in Vietnam and a tour through India for Vietnamese tourism businesses.

At the meeting, Huu said that the VJA will invite India to be an observer at the General Assembly of the Confederation of ASEAN Journalists (CAJ) this year, where he will act as CAJ President for a two-year period.

Saran expressed her pleasure that India would become a CAJ observer as Vietnam is the best friend of India in ASEAN.

Shrimati Preeti Saran has been Indian ambassador to Vietnam since November 2013.
