Venezuelan President commences official Vietnam visit

President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro Moros and his wife are on an official visit to Vietnam from August 30-31 at the invitation of President Truong Tan Sang.

The Venezuelan President is accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Delcy Eloina Rodríguez Gómez; Minister for Oil and Mining and Head of Venezuelan state oil company PDVSA, Eulogio del Pino; Head of the Office of the President and Government Oversight, Carmen Teresa Melendez; Minister of Communication and Information, Desiré Santos Amaral; Minister of Social Movements, Social Protection and Communes, Elías Jaua Milano; and Venezuelan Ambassador to Vietnam Jorge Rondón Uzcátegui.

President Nicolás Maduro Moros was born on November 23, 1962, in Caracas. He worked as a bus driver for Caracas Metro and was a part of the transit union. Maduro was introduced to future Venezeulan President Hugo Chávez in 1992, after he campaigned for Chavez's release from prison.

He was elected to the National Constituent Assembly in 1999 and then to the National Assembly in 2000. He served as Speaker of the National Assembly from 2005 to 2006, and held the position of Foreign Minister from 2006 to 2013.

He was selected by Chavez to serve as vice president in October 2012. He was sworn in as interim president in March 2013 and won the presidential election on April 14, 2013.
