During the meeting with his Chinese counterpart Zhang Dejiang, Chairman Hung said the Vietnamese NA is keen to increase delegation exchanges with the Chinese National People’s Congress, share professional experience, and enhance coordination and mutual support at regional and international inter-parliamentary forums.

By doing so, mutual understanding, trust and solidarity between the two legislative bodies will be strengthened, paving the way for growth of the Vietnam-China relationship, he said.

On the East Sea issue, the NA Chairman said the two sides should abide by agreements and common perspectives of senior leaders of both countries on controlling maritime disputes, refraining from taking any action that complicates or expands disputes while working together to maintain peace and stability in the East Sea.

Both sides should also strictly and fully implement the agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of maritime-related issues as well as the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) while working with other ASEAN members to soon finalise the Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC), he said.

For his part, Zhang lauded the success of the 132 nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-132) hosted by Vietnam, as well as the active engagement of Vietnam’s NA in building the international community’s common targets for peace and prosperity.

The same day, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung also had a meeting with Mogens Lykketoft, President of the United Nations General Assembly.

He expressed his hope that the UN would continue cooperating with Vietnam in the future while promoting its role in the maintenance of peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region and the world, including contributing to joint efforts to peacefully resolve international disputes in line with the UN Charter and international law.

He also said he hopes the spirit of the Hanoi Declaration will be reflected in the UN Summit’s documents through the post-2015 Development Agenda.

Lykketoft spoke highly of Vietnam’s successful hosting of the IPU-132, which he described as a reflection of Vietnam’s active involvement and responsibility as a member of the IPU.

He said he hopes Vietnam’s NA will make more contributions to realising common UN goals for peace and stability in the region and the world.

Meanwhile, in a meeting the same day with the Vietnamese NA Chairman, IPU President Saber Chowdhury recalled his fond memories of Vietnam and its people during his stay in Vietnam in March for the IPU-132.

The success of the IPU-132 made positive contributions to promoting the union’s role and position in the world arena, he said, adding that he hopes for Vietnam’s further involvement in IPU activities in the future.

The Vietnamese top legislator said as part of efforts to realise the post-2015 Development Agenda and sustainable development goals, Vietnam’s NA will issue, amend and supplement a number of legal documents related to the implementation of the agenda and its goals.

The NA will also determine plans and budgets while supervising law enforcement and socio-economic activities related to the implementation of the agenda, he said.

At a meeting with Vladimir Andreichenko, Speaker of Belarus’s lower house, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said he is delighted at the growing friendship and co-operation between the two countries.

He proposed that the two sides speed up economic and trade collaboration to match the sound political relations as well as each other’s potential.

Andreichenko suggested that the two legislative bodies, friendship parliamentarian groups as well as legislators increase exchanges and information sharing for deepened mutual understanding, contributing to realising cooperation programmes and projects between the two governments.
