Party leader meets President of Japan’s House of Councilors

NDO/ VNA – Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong met with President of the House of Councilors Masaaki Yamazaki on September 16, who affirmed the Japanese upper house always gives priority to promoting co-operation with Vietnam.

The Vietnamese Party leader expressed his joy at the fruitful results, especially in economics, of the Vietnam-Japan extensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia.

Vietnam wishes to deepen the strategic partnership with Japan, he stated, stressing that the country always considers Japan an important leading and long-term partner.

He said he hopes affiliation between the two countries’ all-level agencies, including co-operation between the Vietnam National Assembly and the House of Councilors, will be stepped up in the coming time.

He thanked the valuable and effective support from the Japanese Government through its provision of official development assistance (ODA) for Vietnam, while speaking highly of law-making experience shared by the Japanese legislature with its Vietnamese counterpart.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong took the occasion to convey the invitation of NA Chairman Nguyen Sing Hung to President Masaaki Yamazaki to visit Vietnam.

For his part, Masaaki Yamazaki highly valued the development of the bilateral relations in recent years, especially since the ties were elevated to an extensive strategic partnership in 2014. He added that his agency wants to boost exchanges with the Vietnamese legislative body.

The host congratulated Vietnam on its recent socio-economic achievements, praising the country’s active and responsible contributions to peace, co-operation and development in the region.

He said he hopes the Vietnamese P arty General Secretary’s current Japan visit will be a crucial milestone, opening a new vision for the two sides’ relations in the near future.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is on a four-day official visit to Japan from September 15.
