The delegation attended meetings and talks with leaders of the PCP and Avante newspaper, as well as international delegations.

On behalf of the PCP Central Committee, Pedro Guerreiro, member of the Secretariat of the PCP Central Committee and head of its international department, briefed the guests from Nhan Dan on the positive development of the PCP over time, noting that the Party is actively preparing for its twentieth congress, slated for early December.

He extended his well-wishes on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day and expressed his delight at the historic achievements of the Southeast Asian country during its 30 years of Doi Moi (Renovations).

The PCP and the Portuguese people would always support Vietnam on its path of reform and maintenance of its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, Comrade Pedro Guerreiro affirmed.

He voiced his pleasure at welcoming the Nhan Dan newspaper delegation to the 40th Avante Festival, adding that the Communist Party of Vietnam’s participation symbolised the fine traditional solidarity and friendship between the two Parties and between the peoples of the two countries.

Expressing his delight at the PCP’s solid development, Nhan Dan Deputy Editor-in-Chief Phan Huy Hien affirmed that Vietnam would always back the PCP in maintaining its role as a party struggling for the interests of labourers, democracy and socialism, stating that both sides would have the chance to further discuss issues of mutual concern, including Party-building, next month as Vietnam hosts the 18th International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties (IMCWP).

During their stay, the Nhan Dan contingent also exchanged information with international delegations and visited a number of Portugal’s historical and cultural institutions.
