The agreement is expected to ensure the legitimate rights and interests of Vietnamese labourers in line with the law and help them integrate as equals into the host society.

The ambassador made the proposal at a meeting with Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades following his presentation of credentials to the leader in Nicosia on November 29.

Thien informed his host of Vietnam’s recent achievements in socioeconomic development and international integration, as well as the country’s targets and development strategies for the time ahead.

Stressing the fruitful political ties between the two countries, the diplomat noted his wish that their all-round cooperation will further develop in the future.

For his part, President Anastasiades expressed his delight at Vietnam’s achievements, as well as the development of the traditional friendship and multi-faceted collaboration between the two countries over the past four decades.

He promised that competent Cypriot agencies will do their utmost to help the ambassador and the Vietnamese Honorary Consul in Limassol successfully implement bilateral cooperation plans.

Vietnam and Cyprus signed an agreement on visas exemptions for diplomatic and official passport holders in September 2015.

The two Governments are accelerating the signing of an agreement on political consultation and the above-mentioned MoU.
