>>> Parliamentary friendship group hopes for stronger Vietnam-Thailand ties

During his stay in Vietnam, Wichitcholchai held talks with NA Chairwoman Ngan, paid a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and met with the Vietnam-Thailand Parliamentary Friendship Group.

At the meetings, both sides agreed that the relations between Vietnam and Thailand have been growing exceptionally over the past few years, manifested through the regular exchange of high-level delegations. They suggested that the specialised agencies of the two countries’ legislative bodies regularly supervise the implementation of the cooperative agreements reached by the two Governments, whilst maintaining the exchange of delegations at all levels.

The two parliamentary friendship groups of both countries should strengthen their collaboration, the leaders stated, recommending that both sides support each other on issues of mutual concern at international and regional inter-parliamentary forums, thus contributing to peace, stability and development in the Asia-Pacific region.

The two sides agreed to create more favourable conditions for the business communities of both countries to enhance exchanges towards boosting trade and investment, as well as to accelerate bilateral cooperation in the field of trade and investment, thus progressively balancing the trade balance between the two countries. The guest called on Vietnamese businesses to invest more in Thailand, emphasising that the legislative bodies of both sides are willing to coordinate with them in handling any obstacles.

The two sides also discussed the acceleration of signing a new memorandum of understanding on agricultural cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand, and the signing of an agreement on setting up a hotline for fishery activities at sea.

On the occasion, the Thai delegation laid a wreath and paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum in Hanoi, and toured around Ha Long Bay in the northern province of Quang Ninh.
