The State leader expressed his delights to see that the Vietnam-Japan extensive strategic partnership has been growing vigorously, comprehensively and substantively across all spheres, with a high political trust.
He noted that the regular maintaining of visits and meetings between senior leaders of the two countries, especially the Vietnam visits made by Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Speaker of the Japanese House of Representatives Oshima Tadamori, and the official visit made to Japan by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc since early 2017, has contributed significantly to further accelerating relations between the two countries.
Discussing bilateral economic ties, President Quang emphasised Japan as Vietnam’s leading partner as the country is the largest provider of official development assistance (ODA) for Vietnam, and also the second largest in terms of foreign direct investment, the third largest concerning tourism and the fourth largest partner concerning trade.
Both sides have already signed the Vietnam-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (VJEPA) and are working closely together to negotiate on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), he said, urging the two sides to further strengthen trade, investment and ODA cooperation in the time ahead, in order to tap fully into the great potential for bilateral economic collaboration.
Vietnam welcomes Japanese investors to expand their business in the country, the President stated, affirming the Vietnamese State’s pledge to create favourable conditions so that Japanese investment would generate substantive results for the benefits of both sides.
For his part, Minister Toshimitsu Motegi extended the sympathy from the Japanese Government and people for the life and property losses caused by the recent Typhoon Damrey in the Central and Central Highlands regions of Vietnam, informing that Japan is planning to implement emergency assistances aiming to help the Vietnamese people to overcome the storm consequences.
The relationship between Japan and Vietnam is currently in a fine development stage, especially in the fields of economics, trade and investment, Motegi said, stating that the Japanese Government always gives priority to expanding cooperation with Vietnam and seeking investment and business opportunities in the country.
On the occasion, President Tran Dai Quang highly appreciated and welcomed Japanese PM Shinzo Abe to attend and deliver speeches at the significant events of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2017, whilst expressing his gratitude for Japan’s active and effective support offered to Vietnam in organising the events of the Vietnam APEC Year 2017.
