Canadian PM Justin Trudeau pays official visit to Vietnam

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau arrived in Hanoi on November 8, beginning his official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

His entourage includes Ping Kitnikone, Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam; Gerald Butts, Principal Secretary to the PM; John Hannaford, Foreign and Defence Policy Advisor to the PM; and a number of senior officials from the Canadian Government.

PM Justin Trudeau was born on December 25, 1971, in Ottawa, Canada. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from McGill University in 1994 and a bachelor of education degree from the University of British Columbia in 1998, before completing one year of a master’s programme in environmental geography at McGill University, from 2004 to 2005.

In the 2008 federal election, Trudeau was elected to represent the riding of Papineau in the House of Commons, and was re-elected in 2011. In 2009, he was appointed as the Liberal Party’s critic for youth and multiculturalism, and the following year, became critic for citizenship and immigration.

Trudeau won the leadership of the Liberal Party in 2013 and went on to lead his party to victory in the 2015 federal election with over 150 seats in the House of Commons. He took office as the PM of Canada on November 4, 2015, thus becoming the youngest PM in the history of the country.
