Chilean Temporary Foreign Minister Edgardo Riveros presented the insignia to Ambassador Thang at a ceremony.

Speaking at the event, Riveros appreciated the contributions made by Ambassador Ngo Duc Thang to the exchanges of delegations between Vietnam and Chile, especially highlighting the visit to Vietnam made by the Chilean President Michellet Bachelet in early November and Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong’s upcoming visit to Chile.

He also praised the Ambassador’s efforts in maintaining a political consultation mechanism between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs and the Bilateral Free Trade Council mechanism; successfully organising activities to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam – Chile diplomatic relations; supporting the implementation of the Free Trade Agreement between the two countries.

Chilean Temporary Foreign Minister noted that Ambassador Thang has given much attention to accelerating the signing of bilateral cooperation agreements, including the agreement of visa exemption for official passport holders between the two countries which took effect in August.

In addition, the Ambassador has actively facilitated the close coordination between the two countries in multilateral mechanisms, particularly for supporting Chile to join the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia and in negotiations for the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership.

For his part, Vietnamese Ambassador Ngo Duc Thang emphasised that the Chilean Government’s insignia was the encouragement and recognition of the Chilean Government for him.

He affirmed that he would continue to work closely with Chilean friends to further enhance the cooperation and friendship between Vietnam and Chile.
