Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister extends sympathy to Vietnam over flooding

State Councilor and Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi has sent a message of condolences to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh over recent losses of lives and property caused by the recent flood in the northern mountainous localities.

In the message, State Councilor and Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi extended his deepest sympathy to flooding victims and expressed his hope that Vietnamese people would soon overcome the difficulties and return to normal daily life.

Flash floods and landslides triggered by downpours in June had left 23 dead and 10 missing in the northern mountainous provinces, mainly in Lai Chau and Ha Giang, as of 7:00 on June 28. Total damage was estimated at nearly VND500 billion (around US$21.8 million).
