On June 7, 2019, the UN General Assembly elected Vietnam as a non-permanent member of the UNSC for the 2020-2021 term. First of all, on behalf of the Party, State and people of Vietnam, I would like to express my sincere and deepest thanks to the UN member countries for your support and trust in Vietnam to hold the important seat for the second time. This is an important recognition and appreciation from the international community for Vietnam's role and contribution to international and regional issues, expressing Vietnam's increasingly important position and prestige in the international arena.

Vietnam being elected a permanent member of the UNSC is a great honour, affirming the correct foreign policy of the Party and State, but also a heavy and demanding responsibility, requiring it to try its best to fulfil the responsibility entrusted by the international community. Vietnam has continued to consistently implement its foreign policy of independence, autonomy, diversifying and multilateralising foreign relations, and active international integration, as well as being a trusted friend and partner and a responsible member of the international community, promoting compliance with the UN Charter and international law, thus contributing positively to the joint efforts of the international community for peace, cooperation and development.
With new determination, new momentum and a deep belief in the strength and will of the entire Party and the people, along with the efforts and effective and smooth coordination of relevant ministries, agencies and sectors at all levels, in addition to the support of the people, we firmly believe that Vietnam will successfully fulfil its role as a non-permanent member of the UNSC, being a deserving to be a reliable partner for sustainable peace.
