Vice President meets representatives of overseas Vietnamese community in Switzerland

Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh had a meeting in Bern on July 5 with staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Switzerland, the Vietnamese permanent mission in Geneva, the Switzerland-Vietnam Friendship Association’s executive board, and representatives of the overseas Vietnamese in the host country.

While conveying her thanks for the OVs for their warm welcome, Vice President Thinh, who is in Switzerland to attend the 2019 Global Summit of Women, briefed the attendees on the Vietnam’s socio-economic situation over the past three years.

She spoke highly of positive actions of the OVs in Switzerland, which have not only helped to maintain and tighten the solidarity and mutual support within the community but also contributed to the host country’s development.

The Vice President appreciated the OVs’ great attention to educate the younger generation in the community, expressing her belief that Vietnamese students who are studying in Switzerland would gain higher academic results at schools.

The Party and State always eye Vietnamese expat communities as an indispensable part of the country and an important resource for the national development and prosperity, she reiterated, calling on the OVs in Switzerland to strictly observe the law of the host country and make further contributions to the homeland.

Earlier, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh met with Christoph Ammann, the Governor of Canton of Bern, during which she reaffirmed that Vietnam has attached great importance to consolidating and developing the traditional friendship and cooperation with Switzerland.

She also expressed her delight at the positive growth in the bilateral ties, particularly in the economic and trade links.

For his part, Governor Christoph Ammann asserted that the Canton of Bern and Switzerland always value the friendship and cooperation with Vietnam.
