Mexico-Vietnam parliamentary friendship group established

The Mexico-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group was established at a ceremony held at the Mexican Chamber of Deputies on October 8.

The event was attended by many Mexican chamber members, staff of the Vietnamese Embassy and a delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Alfredo Femat Bañuelos, chairman of the group said it aims to promote and create a dialogue space, helping to strengthen the multifaceted relationship between the two countries.

He noted that Mexico and Vietnam share many similarities and can learn from each other in socio-economic development and education for the prosperity of both countries.

Deputy Alfredo Femat added that economic cooperation between the two countries has been growing strongly, with bilateral trade up by over 20% in the past ten years to nearly US$5 billion in 2018.

For his part, Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico Nguyen Hoai Duong affirmed the significance of the group’s establishment to the fine development of the bilateral relationship in all fields and cooperation channels.

He pledged to work closely with the parliamentary friendship group in order to bolster the bilateral relationship in the coming times ahead.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly’s Committee for Culture, Education, Youth, Adolescents and Children Pham Tat Thang said the establishment group marks an important milestone in the cooperation between the two countries’ parliaments.

At the end of the ceremony, the participants attended a photo exhibition on Vietnamese country and enjoyed some Vietnamese food.
