At the reception, Vinh said that despite difficulties brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, leaders of the two countries’ defence ministries have maintained mutual exchanges through virtual communications channels to promote bilateral and multilateral defence cooperation activities.

The Defence Ministers of Vietnam and Japan held online talks in July, while Vinh and then Japanese Deputy Minister of Defence Nishida Yasunori held phone talks on June 10.

Vinh voiced his request that in the coming time, the two sides will continue carrying out cooperation plan which was previously reached.

He also asked the Japanese Ambassador to support Vietnam in successfully holding the ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting Plus (ADMM+) slated for December.

For his part, Ambassador Yamada pledged to further contribute to promoting and developing the Japan-Vietnam extensive strategic partnership, including defence cooperation.
