13th National Party Congress receives wide coverage on international media

Major news agencies and newspapers in the region and the world have run many articles highlighting the significance of the 13th National Party Congress to Vietnam in both political and economic aspects.

On January 26, Pathet Lao newspaper published a front-page article titled “Congratulations to the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam”. The article emphasised the congress as an important political event and a strong development milestone of the Vietnamese revolution in the new period, towards solidarity, democracy, discipline, creativity and development. It affirmed that the Party, State and people of Laos will continue to join hands with the Party, State and people of Vietnam in protecting, preserving and promoting the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

★ According to Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper’s resident correspondent in France, many major French news agencies ran articles about Vietnam’s 13th National Party Congress, highlighting the country’s economic achievements as well as its effective control of the COVID-19 pandemic. The article on the French Communist Party’s L'Humanité newspaper hailed the congress as an important political event in Vietnam’s political life which takes place in the context of Vietnam having attained many achievements in terms of economic development and international integration. According to daily newspaper Le Monde (The World), Vietnam is an “exception” in both Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region regarding the health and economic criteria. While countries have been severely affected by COVID-19, Vietnam has effectively contained the spread of the pandemic and limited the COVID-19-related mortality rate, while achieving positive growth in a gloomy global economic picture.

★ Media reports in the Czech Republic have highlighted Vietnam’s rising position and recent achievements, as well as the sound development of the traditional friendship between the two countries. The online newspaper halonoviny.cz ran an article on January 25 emphasising that under the leadership of the CPV, in recent years Vietnam, as a member of ASEAN, has had a rising role and position in the region and the world. On January 24, the website parlamentnilisty.cz highlighted Vietnam’s economic development achievements after 35 years of its “Doi Moi” (renewal) process, as well as the country’s success in international integration.

★ In Asia, Japan’s Nikkei Asia newspaper published an article on the congress, noting that Vietnam was among the few countries to achieve a GDP growth rate of 2.9% in 2020 thanks to its effective response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Republic of Korea’s national broadcaster KBS, Yonhap News Agency and some other local newspapers provided detailed coverage of the congress, underlining Vietnam’s goal of becoming an upper middle-income country.

Australian media ran articles and photos of flags and banners in Hanoi to welcome the 13th National Congress of the CPV.

★ Latin American press also highlighted the opening of the congress. The website of Telesur, a terrestrial and satellite television network headquartered in Caracas, Venezuela, laid stress on the main topics of the congress, emphasising Vietnam’s development goals for the next five-year period, with orientations to 2030 and a vision to 2045. Meanwhile, Argentina’s Infobae news website and TN television channel published photos on Vietnamese Party and State leaders paying tribute to President Ho Chi Minh, who found the Communist Party of Vietnam in 1930, at his mausoleum in Hanoi ahead of the opening ceremony.
