A society of real human development is needed

Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s article “Several theoretical and practical issues on socialism and the path towards socialism in Vietnam” has affirmed that it is necessary to build a society where development is truly for the people, with compassion, solidarity, understanding and mutual assistance towards progressive and humane values, said Kusum Jain, Secretary General of the India-Vietnam Solidarity Committee in West Bengal, India.

Kusum Jain commented that the Party chief's article is a very timely work, helping to dispel the misconceptions and confusion among the people. The article has clearly and confidently addressed the enormous challenges to human existence and the ongoing economic, social and ecological crisis created by capitalism.

In his article, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong pointed out the basic contradictions of capitalism: that although there are considerable social welfare regimes and advances in science and technology, they cannot solve the basic contradictions of capitalism nor the problems facing the majority of the working class, who are the main victims of the current pandemic.

The situation is very grim when resources are increasingly depleted, the environment is degraded, the gap between rich and poor is increasing, and development is unsustainable. The Party chief shared the thoughts of scientists that the current crises cannot be completely resolved within the framework of a capitalist regime.

In such a context, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed it is necessary to build a society where development is truly for the people, with compassion, solidarity, understanding and mutual assistance towards progressive and humane values.

In order to realise this vision, 35 years ago, the Communist Party of Vietnam carried out the Doi Moi (Renewal) and further developed the concept of the socialist-oriented market economy, ensuring economic growth in tandem with social progress and justice in all stages, policies and development processes.

Theoretically socialism is based on Marxism-Leninism,and in practice the renewal progress, innovative ideas and strategies have continuously been implemented to continue the legacy of the legendary poet, thinker and leader Ho Chi Minh.

Kusum Jain expressed his high agreement with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s article and spoke highly of the General Secretary's substantive understanding of socialism. The Secretary General of the India-Vietnam Solidarity Committee in West Bengal, India, also expressed his hope that Vietnam will be successful on the path of socialism.
