The conference, held in both in-person and online forms, was also attended by Politburo members: President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and Permanent member of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat Vo Van Thuong.

Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee (PCC), Head of the PCC’s Commission for Internal Affairs Phan Dinh Trac presented a summary report on the situation and results of internal affairs work in the 12th tenure of the Party and the tasks and solutions to implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress.

In the past, agencies in charge of internal affairs across the country have shown strong performances in giving strategic advice and proposals to the Party and State on major policies regarding internal affairs as well as those relating to anti-corruption and judicial reform matters.

They have also played a core role in ensuring the country’s independence, sovereignty, unification and territorial integrity as well as political security, social order and safety and the peaceful life of the people, creating a stable, secure and safe environment for national development.

Speaking at the conference, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong emphasised this is the first national conference of all the agencies in charge of internal affairs held in order to implement the 13th National Party Congress’ Resolution.

The Party chief underscored the important position and role of internal agencies in the political system, stressing that these are the advisory bodies to the Party and State to lead, direct and organise the performance of tasks to protect the independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Fatherland; protect the people, protect the Party, State and the socialist regime; maintain national security, social order and safety; prevent and combat crime and legal violations; protect justice, human and citizens' rights; protect the interests of the State, and the lawful rights and interests of organisations and individuals.

In addition, this is considered a core and loyal force, a “sharp sword” and “solid shield” to protect the Fatherland, the people, the Party, the State and the regime, he noted.

The Party General Secretary expressed his belief that, with the tradition of solidarity and high sense of responsibility, internal agencies will effectively implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress; continue strongly renovating the organisation and modes of operation, achieving many important results and making greater contributions to the cause of national construction and defence.
