On October 1, 1991, Hoang Lien Son Province was split into the two provinces of Yen Bai and Lao Cai, which was an important milestone for the Yen Bai people and government, said Party Secretary Do Duc Duy.

In the past three decades, Yen Bai has built on its heroic revolutionary tradition and tapped into its internal strengths and external resources to make Yen Bai one of the most dynamic provinces in the northern mountainous region.

The provincial economy has grown by an annual average of 6.5% in recent years, with income per capita up 50 times and government revenue up 116 times compared to 30 years ago.

Yen Bai is also a bright spot in the Northwestern region for its implementation of the national programme to build new rural areas.

However, there are still many challenges that need to be addressed in order to take Yen Bai into a new period of development, prosperity and happiness.
