At the meeting, the Luxembourg monarch congratulated Vietnam on its socio-economic achievements and spoke highly of the country’s role and position in Southeast Asia.

Grand Duke Henri affirmed the need for further cooperation in various fields, especially through the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, which came into effect in August 2020.

He also highly appreciated bilateral cooperation and mutual support at multilateral and regional forums while highlighting the importance of security and freedom of navigation in the East Sea/South China Sea.

For his part, Ambassador Thao thanked Luxembourg for the valuable support it has provided through development cooperation programmes, which have contributed to Vietnam’s socio-economic development.

The Vietnamese diplomat spoke highly of Luxembourg’s position as a global financial centre and affirmed that Vietnam is willing to facilitate Luxembourg in expanding its investment in Vietnam, especially in the fields of mutual interest such as finance, response to climate change, renewable energy, and the circular economy.

Thao noted that Vietnam wishes to learn from Luxembourg regarding climate change adaptation and digital transformation.

The Vietnamese diplomat also asked Luxembourg to support and stimulate other EU member countries to soon ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement to help create more opportunities for Luxembourg enterprises to invest in Vietnam.
