The visit was made on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic ties (September 5), and 45 years since the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (July 18).

At the talks, the two sides informed each other of the socio-economic development situation and cooperation results between the two provinces and exchanged experiences in Party building, administration, political system and People's Council activities.

During the 2018-2021 period, Son La Province supported Xieng Khouang Province with VND 5 billion to build student dormitories, a library and an information technology room at the School of Politics and Administration of Xieng Khouang Province; and received and supported 78 students from Xieng Khouangsang Province to study at universities and colleges in Son La Province.

The two provinces also discussed, agreed upon, and signed a cooperation agreement for the 2022-2024 period, with the aim to continue to coordinate information dissemination on the time-honoured solidarity, special friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in general, and between Son La Province and Xieng Khouang Province in particular.
