Anniversary of National Day celebrated around the world

Along with activities and events inside Vietnam, the 70th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day were celebrated around the world.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia held a banquet on September 1 to celebrate the anniversary with the presence of Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hor Namhong and many other Cambodian officials, representatives from diplomatic missions and the overseas Vietnamese community in Cambodia.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Thach Du delivered a speech highlighting the nation’s 70-year path and 30-year renewal process, turning Vietnam into an advanced industrialised country by 2020 with the goal of a wealthy people, strong country and a democratic, fair and civilised society.

He affirmed that both Vietnam and Cambodia always respect and nourish the sound traditional friendship between the two countries and expressed his gratitude to Cambodian leaders and people, as well as to international friends for their support to Vietnam in the past and at present.

Deputy PM Hor Namhong extended his congratulations to Vietnam and expressed the hope that Vietnam would continue to gain further achievements in national construction and development.

In Vientianne, Laos, the Lao Ministry of Defence organised a ceremony marking the 70th anniversary on September 2.

Addressing the ceremony, Lao Deputy Minister of Defence, Major Gen. Chansamone Chanyalath spoke of the historical significance of the August Revolution and the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam) – the first agro-industrial state in Southeast Asia, greatly influencing movements fighting for independence and social advancement in the region and the world beyond in addition to helping Laos’ fight for national independence and freedom.

The official spoke highly of sound relations between the two countries and two armies in particular and expressed his gratitude to the Party, State and army of Vietnam for their support to the country.

The Vietnamese Embassies in Russia, Singapore, Japan, Mongolia and Czech also organised ceremonies to celebrate the anniversary. At the gatherings, heads of the representative agencies highlighted the significance of the August Revolution and National Day, as well as the country’s achievements for the past seven decades. The events were opportunities for Vietnam to extend gratitude to international friends for their support to the country during resistant wars for independence, national liberation and unification in the past and in the current cause of national construction and development.
