Conference enhances strategic forecast in diplomacy

The Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations organised a conference in Hanoi on January 14 to review its performance in 2015 and devise a plan for 2016.

Addressing the conference, Politburo member Le Hong Anh, a permanent member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat, praised the commission’s achievements in 2015 and assigned key tasks to the agency in 2016.

He urged the commission to work with relevant agencies to effectively implement external affairs of the 12th Party Congress to promote achievements of the Doi Moi (renovation) process and the Party’s leading role in the revolutionary cause.

After the congress, the commission should intensify communication on the congress’ resolutions, particularly in diplomacy, to ensure national interests in accordance with international laws, and realise the consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, co-operation, development, diversification and multilateralisation of external relations, and proactive international integration to be a reliable friend and partner and a responsible member in the international community, the official said.

He asked the commission to improve the quality and effectiveness of studies, consultations and strategic forecasts on the regional and international situation, as well as the status of political parties around the world to report and serve diplomatic work of the Party Central Committee, the Politburo and the Secretariat, helping improve effectiveness of external affairs, repel plots and actions interfering internal affairs, and maintain political stability.

According to the commission’s report at the conference, in 2015, the commission effectively implemented external affairs through the Party channel multilaterally and bilaterally, contributing to promoting the Party’s external relations, creating positive changes in relations with political parties around the world and elevating the position of the Party and the country.

The commission’s studies, suggestions and reports were improved while management over external affairs in the Party and organisations saw numerous advancements.

In addition, the commission’s monitoring work over people-to-people diplomacy was enhanced to support the external affairs of provinces and cities effectively.
