12th National Party Congress issues press release on preparatory session

The 12th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) convened a preparatory meeting at the My Dinh National Convention Centre in Hanoi on the morning of January 20.

Prior to the session’s opening, delegates to the Congress paid tribute to late President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum.

After which, members of the Politburo, the Party Central Committee (PCC) Secretariat, and heads of delegations from centrally-run Party organisations laid wreaths and offered incense at the Monument to War Heroes and Fallen Soldiers.

Politburo member and President Truong Tan Sang, on behalf of the Politburo and the congress presidium, presided over the preparatory session.

Delegates unanimously voted to adopt the working regulations, working agenda, and election regulations at the 12th National Party Congress.

The Congress elected the Presidium with 16 Politburo members and Secretary of the PCC and head of the PCC Commission for Mass Mobilisation Ha Thi Khiet.

General Secretary of the 11th PCC Nguyen Phu Trong was elected as Chairman of the Presidium.

The Congress also elected a five-member Secretariat and the Delegate Eligibility Appraisal Board with 13 members.

The Congress unanimously approved a report verifying the eligibility of delegates to the 12th National Party Congress. Accordingly, all 1,510 delegates to the event were eligible for the position.

In the afternoon, the delegates studied documents in their delegations.
