Speaking at the ceremony, member of the Party Central Committee and Nhan Dan Editor-in-Chief Thuan Huu reviewed the tradition and development of the Party newspaper over the past.

Huu, who is also Chairman of Vietnam Journalists’ Association, paid tribute to the beloved leader and mentor of the Vietnam Revolutionary Press President Ho Chi Minh, as well as former Party and State leaders and former Nhan Dan officials and staff for directing and devoting themselves to the journalism revolution, and for the development and continuous growth of Nhan Dan newspaper throughout 65 years.

Accompanying the national revolution for freedom, independence, reunification, construction and defence under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam is the newspaper’s tradition, which has been inextricably linked to the historic periods of the nation’s development, Huu affirmed.

During the Doi Moi (renewal) period, Nhan Dan tenaciously defended the Party's renovation policy, maintaining political orientation and the strict implementation of principles and purposes of the Party newspaper.

It has provided accurate and timely information on the Party and State guidelines, policies and laws to the public. In regards to the domestic and international situation, Nhan Dan has made a series of investigations, reports and multiple articles to encourage exemplary models and criticise negative perspectives and distortions. Thereby, together with the national press community, Nhan Dan has contributed recommendations to improve the Party and State’s guidelines and policies, Huu stated.

At the ceremony, Politburo member and permanent member of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat Dinh The Huynh presented and pinned the first-class Independence Order to the traditional flag of Nhan Dan newspaper, in recognition of its achievements and contribution to the revolutionary career of the Party and the nation as a whole.

While praising the newspaper for earning such prestigious awards from the Party and State, Politburo member Huynh asked Nhan Dan staff to be fully aware of the Party newspaper’s functions and tasks, while promptly and faithfully reporting on the true situation in Vietnam and the world and publicising and encouraging people from all walks of life to comply with the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws, contributing to thoroughly grasping and successfully implementing the 12th National Party Congress’s Resolution.

Nhan Dan should constantly innovate the delivery of information and forms of its publications and promote the synergy of a multimedia press agency to discover and replicate positive practices and role models at all levels, as well as detect negative issues arising from social life and propose possible solutions to defend the Party ideological foundation, the Constitution, and the State’s laws and policies, the Politburo member said.

He also urged Nhan Dan staff and journalists to improve their ethics and professional capacity. Each official and reporter from Nhan Dan must be a soldier on the cultural-ideological front to build the paper into a prestigious press agency deserving of trust and confidence from its readers, Politburo member Huynh stressed.

The second National Party Congress held in northern Tuyen Quang province in 1951 decided to make Nhan Dan the voice and the central organ of the Party to replace Su That (The Truth) newspaper. Since its first issue published on March 11, 1951, the daily edition of the newspaper has developed into a multimedia press agency with a range of publications, including Nhan Dan daily, Nhan Dan Weekend, Nhan Dan Monthly, and Thoi Nay (present day), as well as Vietnamese, English and Chinese versions of Nhan Dan Online. A roadmap for publishing Russian and Spanish versions of Nhan Dan Online has been set for the following years, serving external information tasks in important areas. In September last year, the Nhan Dan TV Channel began officially broadcasting nationwide after a pilot trial-run in June 2015.

Nhan Dan also has a corresponding network covering 63 provinces and cities nationwide. It has recently opened two foreign resident offices in Laos and Cambodia, along with representative offices in China, France, and Thailand, while preparations for opening others in some countries are under development following the Politburo and Secretariat’s directives to extend the influence of the Party newspaper to critical areas.

Over the past six decades, Nhan Dan newspaper has been honoured with many noble accolades, including with the Gold Star Order and the Ho Chi Minh Order – the two most noble orders, and the titles of Labour Hero and Hero of the People’s Armed Forces.
