Vietnam People’s Navy debuts sailing ship 286 Le Quy Don

The Vietnam People’s Navy conducted a flag-raising ceremony for its first sailing ship named 286 Le Quy Don at the Vietnam Naval Academy in Nha Trang, in the central province of Khanh Hoa on March 10.

Speaking at the ceremony, Rear Admiral Dinh Gia That, Political Commissar of the Vietnam People's Navy (VPN) stressed the official operation of Sailing Ship Le Quy Don demonstrated the Party and State's attention to modernising the VPN in order to protect the country's sacred and inviolable sovereignty over its seas and islands.

He also asked officers and soldiers of the sailing ship to quickly master the techniques and equipment, as well as and strive to fulfil all assigned tasks.

The ship was designed by Choreń Design & Consulting and built by Marine Projects Ltd. Shipyard from Poland.

The ship successfully passed an 18,000 nautical mile test run voyage from Gdansk (Poland) to Vietnam with a mixed Polish and Vietnamese crew on-board.

The training vessel is named after Le Quy Don, a famous Vietnamese poet, philosopher and encyclopaedist in the 18th century.
