Dien Bien urged to focus on poverty reduction

In addition to reforming administrative procedures as well as encouraging people and enterprises to promote production, Dien Bien authorities should focus on hunger eradication and poverty reduction.

The requirement was made by Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, who is also Head of the Northwestern Region Steering Committee, during his working session with leaders of Dien Bien province on socio-economic development and defence as well as preparations for the upcoming election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly (NA) and People's Councils at all levels for the 2016-2021 tenure.

Addressing the working session, Deputy PM Phuc appreciated the efforts of Dien Bien province in synchronously and legally implementing preparations for the upcoming election.

He also asked the provincial Electoral Commission to complete full profiles of candidates for NA deputy; organise the second consultative conference; receive comments of voters; check and post up lists of voters; and verify complaints and denunciations.

In addition, the Deputy PM urged the province to enhance effective communication to highlight the great significance and importance of the election as well as ensure absolute security for the election.

Regarding socio-economic development, Deputy PM Phuc emphasised that the province’s leaders should set reasonable roadmaps and steps to overcome all difficulties and gain more achievements in the coming times.

It is essential for the province to select infrastructure in order to definitively invest in each project as well as seek positive directions for the local tourism sector’s development on the basis of existing potential and advantages, said the Deputy PM.

He required the local authorities to promote security and order protection, and build a strong political system, contributing to better caring for people’s lives.
