On the same day, Bachtell held talks with Hoang Binh Quan, member of the Party Central Committee and head of its Commission for External Affairs, during which they compared their notes on regional and global issues and discussed measures to strengthen co-operation between the two Parties.

During their stay, the US delegates had working sessions with representatives from the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education and Theory Council; the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; the Ministry of Labour, Invalid and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Health; the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisation, and the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/dioxin (VAVA).

They also made fact-finding tours of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Quang Ninh province.
