President Quang received 436 votes out of 465 from present NA deputies, and 460 votes adopting a resolution on electing him as the State President.
He was officially sworn in as State President, swearing to be loyal to the nation, people and the Constitution and promising to intensify efforts to effectively fulfill entrusted tasks.
On behalf of the NA, NA Chair Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan declared the NA’s recognition of his oath and presented flowers to congratulate the newly-elected leader.
Addressing the NA, President Quang vowed to enhance the national unity bloc; consistently fight to protect independence, sovereignty, unification and territorial integrity of the nation, as well as national interests and security; continue promoting the doi moi process; boost proactive integration; and elevate the country’s status in the international arena.
Quang was born on October 12, 1956 in Ninh Binh province. He was a NA deputy of the 13th tenure NA. As a Professor and Doctor of Law, he served as Director of Staff for Security; Deputy Director General of General Department of Security; a member of the Police Standing Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security; a member of the Party Central Committee for the 10th, 11th and 12th tenures; a Politburo member for the 11th and 12th tenures and a member of the Government’s Party Committee; Secretary of the Central Police Party Committee, General and Minister of Public Security; and a member of the National Defence and Security Council.
