As he took the oath of office, Prime Minister Phuc pledged allegiance to the motherland, people and constitution of Vietnam, and vowed to work hard to fulfil the duties entrusted by the Party, State and people.
Phuc was elected to the post of prime minister by 446 out of 490 National Assembly deputies.
On behalf of the National Assembly, Speaker Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan congratulated Nguyen Xuan Phuc on his new role and expected that the new prime minister would fulfil his duty in accordance with his oath.
Earlier on April 6, Vietnam’s parliament overwhelmingly approved the relief of Nguyen Tan Dung from heading the government.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc was born in 1954 in the central province of Quang Nam and graduated from the National Economics University in 1978.
He officially joined the Communist Party of Vietnam in 1983 and was elected to the Politburo in 2011.
Phuc has held many posts in the government, including chairman of the Government Office and deputy prime minister.
