PM hails effective agricultural restructuring of Dong Thap

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has hailed initial outcomes gained by Dong Thap province in restructuring its agricultural sector, describing it as a successful example which should be duplicated nationwide.

The Prime Minister made the remark at a working session with key provincial leaders on June 12 to review the locality’s socio-economic development situation since the beginning of this year as well as its implementation of the ‘Restructuring the agricultural sector’ project.

As the first province in the Mekong River Delta region to participate in the project, Dong Thap has succeeded in shifting of its economic structure and promoting agricultural production efficiency and sustainability.

PM Phuc asked the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to summarise Dong Thap’s model and promote it as a bright example for other localities to follow.

He requested the local authorities to diversify investment models in order to attract more resources in order to further improve infrastructure.

The locality should also be active in realising Government resolutions on socio-economic development while creating a favourable business environment and providing support for business operations.

Since the beginning of this year, Dong Thap has achieved a Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) growth rate of 6.02%, with rice output at 2 million tonnes and aquaculture production at 200,000 tonnes.

The province also saw a 10.59% increase in its total retail sales of consumer goods and services and gained US$384 million in total export value.

During his stay in Dong Thap, PM Phuc talked to farmers at My Xuong mango collective in Cao Lanh district and surveyed the model of tra fish production and processing at Vinh Hoan company. 

Earlier the same day, he offered incense to the tomb of Nguyen Sinh Sac, the father of President Ho Chi Minh and presented gifts to heroic mother Ho Thi Au and war veterans Nguyen Van Du and Nguyen Xuan Bon.
