Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality honoured with Labour Order

The Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality, under the Ministry of Science and Technology, was presented with the Labour Order first class at a ceremony held in Hanoi on July 8.

The Order is the noble reward from the Party and State in recognition of the significant contributions the directorate has made to the nation over the past 55 years.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam attended the event and granted the Labour Order to the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality.

Minister of Science and Technology Chu Ngoc Anh affirmed that the directorate, along with the metrology systems across the country, is an effective tool of State management and is among the leading sectors directly serving socio-economic development.

Quality measurement standards help to ensure equality in commercial transactions while the use of advanced management systems help enterprises to raise their productivity, quality and competitiveness in order to overcome technical barriers.

General Director of Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality Tran Van Vinh said that over the past 55 years, the directorate has made considerable strides with their most prominent achievement being the building of a comprehensive legal document system,with guiding documents on quality measurement standards based on related laws.

Vinh noted that these documents have helped to create unity and synchronicity for the quality metrology and technical standards activities, contributing to enhancing the State’s management capacity and social justice.

The directorate has built more than 9,500 national standards including 47% of the standards meeting international standards.

The Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality is now the representative agency of Vietnam, participating in 14 international organisations on standards, metrology, quality and bar codes.

Meanwhile, Deputy PM Dam requested that the directorate boost renewal and creativity, along with international co-operation, to actively support enterprises and the national economic integration.
