Following the conclusion of the trial, the embassy’s representatives and lawyers spoke with Huong with regards to following litigation procedures.

In the coming months, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue their close coordination with the domestic agencies involved in the case, the Vietnamese embassy in Malaysia and the Malaysian lawyers to ensure that Huong's legitimate rights and interests are protected.

Doan Thi Huong, 28, is one of the two women suspects in the murder of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) man named Kim Chol, who died at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on February 13.

The Malaysian authorities claim that Kim Chol was poisoned, but the DPRK insist that he died of a heart attack, combined with high blood pressure and diabetes.

At the court hearing on March 1, the two women were charged with murder but they denied the charge, stating that they were coerced into taking part in an innocuous prank.

According to Malaysian law, they would face the death penalty if found guilty.
