Earlier, the US diplomat bade farewell to President Tran Dai Quang and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Ted Osius assumed his duties in Vietnam in 2014 and is set to work as Vice President of the Fulbright University Vietnam after leaving his office.

His tenure witnessed more mutual visits by Vietnamese and US leaders than any other ambassadors, including a historic visit to the US by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in July 2015, a visit to Vietnam by former US President Barack Obama in July 2016, and a tour of the US by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in May 2017.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump is scheduled to attend the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in Da Nang city, whilst paying a visit to Vietnam in early November.

Bilateral trade grew from US$36 billion in 2014, when Osius took office, to more than US$50 billion at present. Total US investment in Vietnam has surpassed US$10 billion.
