Lao leaders hail Ho Chi Minh City’s cooperation

The support and cooperation provided by Ho Chi Minh City to several Lao localities have significantly contributed to the development of Laos over the past few years.

The statement was made by Lao Party General Secretary and President Bounnhang Volachith and Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith during their warm reception with Vietnamese Politburo member and Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan, in Vientiane, on January 23.

They also expressed their hope that Ho Chi Minh City would continue to enhance its cooperation and support with Laos in all fields, particularly in education, tourism, farming, trade and investment.

At the reception, Vietnamese Politburo member Nhan congratulated the Lao Party, State and people for their great achievements over the past 30 years.

He said that the delegation’s visit aims to tighten the relations between Ho Chi Minh City and the Lao localities, particularly the capital of Vientiane and Savannakhet province, while affirming that Vietnam, always prioritises preserving and promoting the special solidarity with the neighbouring country.

The Politburo member also said that during the visit, he would share his experience with the Lao leaders and officials on issues of mutual interest to both sides.

Earlier on the same day, Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nhan paid tribute and laid a wreath at the unknown martyrs' monument as well as visited and offered scholarships to students at the Vientiane – Ho Chi Minh City Friendship School and the Laos – Vietnam Friendship High School.
