The statement was made by Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue at a conference in Hanoi, on February 5, to review the Steering Committee for the Southwest Region’s performance in 2017 and over the past 15 years.

In addition to the economy, the committee has gained numerous outstanding achievements in the fields of society, security-defence, religious work, the political system, hunger elimination and poverty reduction, and the construction of new-style rural areas, he said.

The Deputy PM, who is also head of the Steering Committee for the Southwest Region, noted that the committee, along with the committees for the Northwest and Central Highlands, will end their performance from the beginning of this year.

However, the ministries, agencies and localities concerned will continue to implement the committee’s missions, he added.

Deputy PM Hue expressed his hope that the southwest region would seek sustainable measures to cope with climate change and successfully integrate into the international economy, becoming a rich delta region.

On the occasion, Deputy PM Vuong Dinh Hue presented the third-class Labour Order to former deputy head of the committee Le Hung Dung.
