Addressing the meeting, Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam highly appreciated FIDE's support on developing chess - one of the few sports in which Vietnam has reached the top level. The Vietnam Chess Federation is also an active member of activities organised by FIDE. The Deputy PM hopes that FIDE will support not only the players but also the arbitrations, as well as sharing experience in hosting major international chess tournaments.

The Deputy PM asked the Vietnam Chess Federation, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to closely coordinate with the FIDE in deploying programmes and activities, and to organise tournaments and chess events for the further development of the sport in Vietnam.

Noting the impressive development of chess in Vietnam over recent years, FIDE President said that many Vietnamese players achieved good results in the largest tournaments in the region and around the world.

Over past years, the FIDE has organised many activities to promote the development of Vietnamese chess such as training talented athletes; exchanging expert delegations and trainers for Vietnamese players; and providing documents and textbooks to serve chess teaching, the FIDE President said.

He also affirmed his commitments to supporting the development of Vietnam’s chess at future chess championships.
