The statement was made by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc while attending the largest investment promotion conference in the Mekong River Delta province of Vinh Long on March 27.

Speaking at the event, the Government leader appreciated the important achievements that the province has gained in all fields, especially maintaining its sixth position in the provincial competitiveness index (PCI) rankings of the country.

PM Phuc urged the provincial leaders to set out a model for sustainable development based on smart agriculture and ecotourism.

Vinh Long should set a target of joining the key economic region in the Mekong River Delta, along with Can Tho, An Giang, Kien Giang and Ca Mau provinces, he added.

It is crucial to improve both the quantity and quality of enterprises, as well as accelerate administrative reform to attract more major investors with high capital and the latest technology to the province, noted the PM.

He stressed the importance of building links among farmers, the State, the investment and banking sectors, scientists and distributors in agricultural production, particularly in high-tech agriculture.

At the conference, PM Phuc witnessed the signing of memorandums of investment as well as granted investment decisions and investment registration certificates for a number of large-scale projects.
