Senior officials’ meeting of GMS-6 opens in Hanoi

The senior officials’ meeting of the sixth Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS-6) opened in Hanoi on March 29.

The meeting was co-chaired by the Head of the Vietnamese Delegation and representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), with the participation of representatives from Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand. The meeting was held in preparation for GMS-6, scheduled to take place in Hanoi on March 31.

The meeting focused on reviewing the preparation and finalising the draft documents to be submitted to the GMS leaders. The participating countries appreciated the coordination and preparation of the host country. The meeting also reviewed the content of the sectorial cooperation strategies on transport, tourism, agriculture and the environment, and reported on the results of 25 years of GMS cooperation.

Speaking at the meeting, the Head of the Vietnamese delegation thanked the close cooperation and coordination of the GMS member countries with Vietnam, as well as the effective support of the ADB during the preparation for GMS-6.

High-ranking officials from Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand highly appreciated the careful preparations, as well as initiatives undertaken by Vietnam, and expressed their confidence in the event's success.

The sixth Greater Mekong Sub-region Summit, themed “Leveraging 25 years of cooperation, building an integrated, sustainable and prosperous GMS” aims to celebrate the 25th founding anniversary of the GMS Programme and define the cooperation orientations to build a region of prosperity, integration and sustainable development.
