Vietnamese ambassador to US visits naval school in Monterey

Vietnamese Ambassador to the United States Pham Quang Vinh paid a visit to the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, on April 2, at the invitation of the US Department of Navy.

He was received by Vice Admiral Ronald Route, President of the graduate school, and Congressman Jimmy Panetta, who represents the Monterey area.

The two sides spoke highly of the fine bilateral relationship in recent years, as evidenced by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s visit to the US and President Donald Trump’s visit to Vietnam, as well as the visits by the two countries’ defence ministers and the recent port call of the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier in Da Nang.

At the meeting with the graduate school’s leaders, the Vietnamese diplomat informed them of Vietnam’s foreign policy and progress in the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership.

He expressed his desire that the Vietnam-US relations will continue to grow in the future, including exchanges between the two navies, and the graduate school and Vietnamese partners.

For his part, Vice Admiral Ronald Route said that he expects to cooperate with Vietnam in the areas of maritime security, peace-keeping, cybersecurity and search and rescue.

Congressman Jimmy Panetta said that he is impressed with Vietnam’s growing role in the region and hopes to further strengthen the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of education, trade, agriculture and science-technology.

During the visit to the naval school, Ambassador Vinh also had an exchange with its lecturers and students on the Vietnam-US relationship, the policies of Vietnam and the US towards the region and regional security issues.
