Launched by the Association of Vietnamese Students and Professionals in the US in 2016, this year's event attracted the participation of 201 teams from 17 countries around the world, including teams from Vietnam and the host nation.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Vinh highly praised the development of the association and VietChallenge in recent years, in not only supporting students in their studies and research, but also attracting talented people to hold practical activities which promote the homeland.

The diplomat expressed his belief in the enthusiasm, talent, and creativity of Vietnamese youngsters, expecting young people abroad, as well as Vietnamese start-ups, to continue to unite and contribute to the development of the homeland and the good relations between Vietnam and the US.

Since it was first organised in 2016, the annual competition has become a prestigious contest for creative Vietnamese entrepreneurs and youth from all over the world. It has been expanded to not only attract young people in the US, but also connect youths and students from Vietnam and other countries.

After three rounds, the VIoT team, with a smart urban lighting system project, won the top prize at this year’s event, worth US$25,000.

Earlier the same day, Ambassador Vinh attended and delivered a speech at the Vietnam-US investment conference which was jointly organised by the US law firm Foley Hoag and VietChallenge with the participation of US businesses and Vietnamese start-ups in the host country.

The Vietnamese ambassador emphasised the strong development of bilateral relations in various areas since they were normalised in 1995, and the establishment of a comprehensive partnership in 2013.

He updated the guests on the continued development of relations between the two countries, reflecting in the two State visits by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc to the US in May 2017 and the visit to Vietnam and attendance at the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting by President Donald Trump in November of last year.

Informing the participants on the development of a favourable investment environment in Vietnam, the diplomat affirmed that the Vietnamese representative offices in the US are always ready, and continue to be a bridge and provide support for investors and businesses of both sides.

On the occasion, Ambassador Vinh also hosted a working session with the Association of Vietnamese Students and Professionals in the US.
