Thuong, who heads the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication and Education, made the remarks while visiting journalist Ha Dang, former Editor-in-chief of Nhan Dan newspaper, and journalist Phan Quang, former president of the Vietnam Journalists’ Association and former director of the Voice of Vietnam (VOV), on June 14 on the occasion of the Vietnam Revolutionary Journalism Day (June 21, 1925-2018).

At the meetings, the Politburo member asked after and wished the veteran journalists good health, asking them to continue passing down their inspiration, experience, and wholeheartedness to the younger generations, thus encouraging positive factors and combating any negative signs.

Thuong hailed the significance of journalism in each revolutionary stage, stressing that in the current period, the press needs to promote its role and modernise its communication methods, in order to provide formal information to readers in a timely fashion, orientate the public opinion, and fight false and negative information that adversely affects society.
